[CUBS]KubKar Challenge and Race
The Cubs from 15th Brighton Scout Group have thrown down the gauntlet and challenged the rest of the Glen Eira Cubs to a race, a KubKar race. We are taking this seriously! Actually quite the opposite – we are ready to have fun!!
What is a KubKar
Kub Kar races are a long-standing tradition in Scouting around the world. Cubs have the opportunity to design, build and race their car on a purpose built track. It teaches them about physics and design, lets them compete in a fun and supportive environment and meet other Cubs from across the District.

[Race Day] When: Sunday September 8th, 2024 11am-3pm
All we need to know NOW (or by Monday 29th Jul) if you can make race day on 8 September and whether you will want a hot dog!
There is no need for you to register your cub individually.
We, the Cub leaders, will be registering as a group, so that everyone gets a change to build a KubKar. That way it won’t matter if you have sport/ballet/swimming/…/etc. on Sundays and cant make the race day…
We also need to know if that Hot Dog needs to be special in any way i.e. no pork, gluten free, no onions)
Our Plan (More information will be provided on closer to the days)
We want our secret weapons (or technical advisors) aka Dads to come to Cubs on Monday 26 Aug and Monday 2 Sep. Around father’s day time line. This should give enough time for our Cubs to use their secret weapons aka Dads to assist with the Design, Build and Decoration of the KubKars.
Note: That we are planning to have some Father Day fun at the same time on Monday 2nd
Note: There is no reason why Mums or any other helpers cannot be involved. However they got to have fun in May.
KUBKAR RULES
• You must build your car on the base supplied (you can edit it so long as you do not interfere with the axel position).
• You must use the wheels and axels supplied.
• Your car cannot be taller than 19cm.
• Your car cannot be wider than the wheels.
• Your car cannot be longer than 30cm.
• You cannot build under the base.
• Your finished car cannot weigh more than 500 grams.
Cars should be built from materials typically found at home or Scouts. If you need to purchase materials for your build, this must be a reasonable spend – no more than your weekly allowance. Your car needs to be designed and built within your resources (Ferrari is not allowed to design Kub Kars!)
• No propulsion of any sort is allowed.
• On the day, each kubkar will be measured, weighed and checked. if a car is not built according to these rules, it will be disqualified and will automatically be eliminated after the first heat.
