[GROUP] King George Hall Update

AN UPDATE ON THE HALL RENOVATION

WHAT’S BEEN DONE, WHAT STILL NEEDS TO BE DONE AND HOW YOU CAN HELP
HANDOVER

On Monday 8th August the Glen Eira Council handed back the keys to our King George Hall. What a momentous day! A huge amount of work has been undertaken and it looks amazing. We now have twice as much space, brand new toilets, a new ceiling and heaps more. Over $287,000 has been spent, $265,000 by the council and $22,000 by our Group.

But, does this mean the hall is finished? It’s a definite – ‘No!’ and we need everyone to help us.

We could leave the hall as it is, half finished and nearly there. Or, we could maximise our opportunities to have a flexible and dynamic 21st century facility. Therefore, the group has developed both long and short term plans to continue our hall development. We estimate around $60,000 worth of work is needed to achieve our goal and thus provide the best possible Scouting experience for all our members today and in the future.

NEXT STAGE

The next stage is to finish the key elements to make the hall safe, practical and presentable to get our Scout and Venturer sections back into their traditional home. Plus, to move our Joey and Cub sections to the King George hall. For the first time in over 10 years we’ll have all sections meeting under the one roof. To do this we need to construct a couple of walls, finish the painting and polish the floor – simple really! The catch is that this will cost around $40,000.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

There are a couple of ways to help;
– Assist at our upcoming fundraisers
– Come along to a working bee at the hall to lend a hand

You could also follow the lead of one amazing family and invest in the future of our Group. We were blown away this week when the Brett family approached us to make a large donation towards the hall renovations. Their generosity is testament to our great Groups wonderful Scouting programs. We have accepted (with pride) their donation and thank the Brett’s for recognising us as such a valued Group in their children’s lives.

THEN WHAT?

Our hall improvement plan will continue over the next few years. The work will include; reconfiguring the equipment store, repairing the windows and improving the external appearance of the hall. We also hope to install heating and cooling along with audio visual equipment for the benefit of the sections and to improve profitability through hall hire. This work will be dependent on our fundraising efforts and ability to successfully apply for grants.

Whether you have time and skills to volunteer or money to donate we’d love to hear from you. Check out the bottom of this post to find out more.
