FIJI SERVICE PROJECT INFORMATION
5th/6th Central Moorabbin is an active and thriving Venturer Scout unit for ages 14 up to 18. Late last year the unit decided to make an overseas trip to do community service which the whole group could work towards. After the vicious cyclone ravaged FIJI late last year it seemed only appropriate to lend a helping hand. The trip to Savusavu will be 10 days in December 2016. The task to build two playgrounds for an underprivileged local school – one for seniors and one for juniors. We have worked with Rotary Club Bentleigh Moorabbin Central to link us with support via Rotary Club Savusavu and will be staying at the school hall during the build. The Venturers will be able to connect with the school children and scouts in Savusavu to benefit both communities majorly.

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS CHARITY
Big Brothers Big Sisters helps young people who face serious adversity – those who have little opportunity to develop positive and supportive relationships with adults. Many who are hungry for friendship, guidance and acceptance. We facilitate meaningful, monitored mentoring matches between adult volunteers (Bigs) and children living with disadvantage (Littles), ages 7 through 17. By positively changing the course of a young person’s life, Big Brothers Big Sisters know we can build resilience and a sense of self-worth that helps them to stay at school, improve their relationships with families and their community which in turn can lead to long-term community benefits like an increase in school retention; school and community safety; and greater employment opportunities. Sammy J is a community ambassador for BBBS.
